Youth Programs //Youtheatre Series //Michael Harms Theater Festival //Home

The Syracuse Youth Jazz Festival was created to showcase the musical skills of students in high schools throughout Central New York and beyond. It provides a learning experience for students through adjudication, workshops, clinics and competition. The festival has been a two time recipient of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) prestigious Excellence Award and is a recognized IAJE event.

Give your Students a Great Learning Experience...
  * All styles and classes of musicians are welcomed and encouraged to join our festival; we have categories for Combo and Ensemble (Class C, B, AA).

* Students have the opportunity to learn tips and techniques from the best regional professional musicians in our free clinics and workshops that run througout the day.

* Each student group receives an alloted time in an isolated room to warm up prior to performance.

* Each student group performs for our panel of judges in the Crouse Hinds Concert Theatre (this is the same stage where the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra performs!)

* Each performance is judged by a panel of regional professional jazz musicians. After your performance a member of the judging panel leads each student group in a workshop that offers tips and techniques to the performers.

* Students have the opportunity to attend our FREE Guest Artist Clinic.

* All Jazz Fest participants receive discount tickets to Guest Artist Concert presented by CNY Jazz Orchestra.

* Scholarships and Awards totaling over $5,000 from such institutions as Berklee College of Music and IAJE are awarded to outstanding Jazz Fest Participants.
